ever wonder how a piece of customized furniture becomes transformed from a fabric swatch and drawing into a spectacular chair in your living room? Well, I witnessed the whole process yesterday at the Kravet Chair building Event.
Brian Donavon, Kravet Toronto showroom owner, and Susan Lorenz of Kravet hosted the event.
I always knew Kravet made gorgeous, premium fabrics, so I ought to have known they were just as major about the furniture they manufacture.
Starting with a solid wood frame and moving to seat construction, padding and upholstery (including stunning bias welting), Donavon and his team educated a number of enthusiasts at designer walk here in Toronto.
I was really impressed! Each piece is bench-made (in other words, made by the same team from start to finish) with the best quality materials and workmanship. It was an amazing learning experience. who knew the amount of detail that goes into building a piece of upholstered furniture?
Here, Steve is putting the finishing touches on the chair.
And the final product! The Pelham Chair in a taupe chevron stripe… I love this chair! and the best part — someone got to take the chair home! One lucky attendee won the chair. I just wish it had been me!
